NANCY HOFFMAN VANYEK
Greater San Fernando Valley Chamber of Commerce Nancy Hoffman Vanyek is the chief executive of the Greater San Fernando Valley Chamber of Commerce. She started as the communications manager of the then-called Van Nuys Chamber of Commerce and, within 6 years, was named the chamber’s first female CEO. Last year, she created the Save Small Business Coalition to gather chamber executives across the nation to push for relief for small businesses during the coronavirus pandemic. On July 22, a regional chamber coalition is to award her with the inaugural Small Business Advocate Award for her collaborative leadership in creating the coalition. She was given the CEO of the Year award in April at the Business Journal’s Women’s Council event. BEST ADVICE: It’s important to understand the difference between nice and kind. Some don’t think it is nice when you tell them the straight truth, but it is kind. I like both (nice and kind) but when I have to choose…I choose kind. Diana Williams is the chief executive of the West Valley Warner Center Chamber of Commerce and director of the Chamber’s Community Benefit Foundation. Last year she developed the Save our Restaurants program and published a “Support Local” guide to include information about local delivery and curbside services and other up-to-date business offerings. She serves on City Councilmember Bob Blumenfield’s Economic Development and Beautification Community Action teams, as well as the board of the United Chambers of Commerce. In addition to other civic and professional councils and coalitions, she is a member of the Save Small Business Coalition and Ventura Boulevard Planning Review Committee. BEST ADVICE: Do not expect your team to do what you would do. Expect them to do their best. BUCKET LIST: Traveling to Italian countryside with David!
